Good Fats, what are they where do they come from, what do they do for us? (part 2)

Good Fats, Can it be??

Absolutely, not only are they needed for energy, they are also essential in many vital roles in the body: building cells & membranes, the stating material for hormones and, a precursor to some vitamins made in your body.

Ever wonder what’s the big deal about omegas? Or why there is a ratio and why it’s important?

For starters, our ancestors ate a diet of Omega-6 to Omega-3s much closer to a 1:1 ratio, the modern western diet is as high as 20:1, that’s 20 Omega-6’s to every 1 Omega-3.

So what’s the big deal?

Omega-6s are necessary in the role of inflammation, yes inflammation is necessary, think of every time you get an injury, an illness, or you get a dreaded splinter. Inflammation is part of the healing process.

However, when your body is in a constant state of inflammation overload it depletes your resources, energy and leads to chronic inflammatory diseases.

Omega-3’s when in balance aid in reduced inflammation, cardio vascular health (reducing blood triglycerides) and even the reduction of autoimmune disease.

Depending on the quality of the foods you eat their omega 6:3 varies greatly.

Take grass-fed beef(2:!) vs grain feed beef (9:!), that’s a huge difference!

Especially when thinking about cardio vascular health and the bad wrap that red meats get.

NOT ALL MEAT IS CREATED EQUAL, and your body will suffer under the wight of cheap meat.

Where do they come from?

Many of the good clean fats that your body needs MSUT BE CONSUMED, we can’t make them on our own.

Healthy Omega-3s like ALA, DHA and EPA are only provided through our diet.
